Oh blogging.

I need to do it. Especially about Maya's first birthday! I shall do that. This week.

Part of the reason I don't blog more is because I'm pretty dang self-conscious. (Not so self-conscious that I'm not going to give you a long-winded, self-indulgent explanation, though.) It's honestly not as bad as it was when I was a teenager, but I suppose by other people's standards it's still pretty bad. In real life conversations, I usually worry about saying something incredibly stupid and offending people. Usually I have enough restraint that I just end up boring them. Yes, boring people is a silver lining in my book. I also worry about previously unknown facial ticks, as well as the known ones, like that my mouth does weird things when I'm not concentrating on holding it still or the fact that my eyebrows make me look like I'm sad if I don't concentrate on relaxing them. People shouldn't have to concentrate to relax, should they? But that's life in my head.

Anyway, online it's obviously a lot easier because people don't see my face and I can try and think more about what I want to say. This doesn't lend me much more eloquence, but it does help a bit. Still, I'm a somewhat private person by nature and the verbal diarrhea that is inevitably found in a blog makes me uneasy (even though I do like to narrate the events of my day from time to time).

I'm not sure I have a point with all this. I started with excuses and got distracted by the sound of my own inner voice (which does not currently have an Australian accent, if you were wondering). I do have to say that I wish that more superhero comics had better character development. But I guess they're written more for males.

Oh tangents. Here's a baby to segue into the awkward silence that I always imagine occurs at the end of my posts.

Film

I was briefly talking to Shannon the other day about film photography versus digital photography and how while digital is incredibly efficient and produces gorgeous results, film should not be completely negated (hmm) because there is a subtly different quality to photos taken with film cameras. I could be wrong, but why don't you decide for yourself? This is a blog I follow of a photographer who now lives in London with her family. Take a look:

And here's a photographer's tumblr. She does a lot of fashion photography.

It's the photographer that makes the picture, but I think the type of camera is as important as the type of paints a painter uses. Different kinds produce different results. It just depends on what you're looking for, I guess.

Anyway, since Shannon's a dabbler (hehe), I thought I would give you guys a look back to when she took some pictures of Maya and our family nearly a year ago when she was born. I know you guys have already seen these but I wanted to make my point. :) Shannon's a talented photographer and this camera she used has a little bit of a grainy quality in low light that gives everything a nice softness and texture. (Also take a look here at some more recent photos she's taken with film - all but the center two photos of the lake are taken with film:)

See?

I have a lot of hair.

That is all.

Today

When I'm nursing Maya and reading something funny, she stops to laugh too. She also likes to try to beat me to the Cheerios she left on the floor.

In primary today, Nathan did the hand motions so that it looked like popcorn was popping out of his eyes. He didn't think anyone was watching.

Rylie is talking to herself in the bathroom right now. The only words I could hear clearly were, "foolish abominations".

Lately, my inner voice has had an Australian accent.

Jared is making fried sugar and cinnamon tortillas.
